Artist Statement

Hello there! I’m Annette, a working artist and Intentional Creativity® teacher and I love to create. For me, creativity is all about intention and connection with a big dose of Mother Earth mixed in. I connect to the energy of what I’m painting, whether it’s a wildflower or a tree or a horse. When painting a horse, my intention is to capture the sense of it running with ink, watercolor, pigment, and a bit of an Asian flare tossed in.

My studio is located in the gorgeous Bitterroot Valley in southwest Montana. Horses, mountains, clouds – all of these things are inspiration for me. I love exploring the western United States and painting in all kinds of crazy places, wandering down a trail, climbing a cliff, or sitting with the ocean. I’m passionate about deepening our connection to the earth and doing that through creativity. One of the things I teach are Earth Prayers, a creative, meditative practice you can take with you anywhere you travel around the world.

I also teach Intentional Creativity classes where I mix up an inquiry with red thread, lots of paint, possibly a sprinkle of glitter, and we get wildly creative. Take a look at my online galleries, explore the classes, drop me an email and let’s see how we can connect.

American Master painter, Sue Hoya Sellars, was my first painting teacher, she taught me sumi-e, the ancient practice of Chinese ink painting. Sue was taught by her teacher, Lenore Thomas Straus, a stone sculptor from the 1930s and 40s. I’ve also studied with renowned Asian Western watercolor painter, May Shei.

I learned painting and the Intentional Creativity method from Shiloh Sophia, the founder of the Intentional Creativity movement, and am a certified IC Teacher – as well as faculty at the Color of Woman School, the training school for the IC method.
