- Medium : Pyrography
The inspiration for my art comes from my background. Growing up in Wyoming, I have developed a deep love of nature and working as a veterinary technician has given me a respect and appreciation of the beauty, complexity and resilience of animal and birds. After almost 10 years, I then went onto develop my skills and art content at the university of Montana and graduated with a BFA and K-12 teaching licensure. These experiences and influences have led to my current body of work.
Although I do create woodcarvings and oil paintings, my work primary consists of pyrography (wood burning) with acrylic paint on hardwoods. The hardwoods I use expose the natural structures and beauty found in nature through the bark and woodgrain. The rendering of the animals and birds is done in high detail to represent the complexity and allure they possess. I then add color to bring a more life-like quality to the work and better reflect the animal or birds’ natural beauty.
