Artist Statement
Making art has been part of my life since early childhood. In graduate school, I was totally enthralled with German Expressionism. Mueller, Heckel, and Kirchner became my muses.
I created large figurative wood carvings from tree trunks and 8′ x 4′ woodcuts evocative of German art and writers, mostly Geothe.
After school, I settled into painting figurative, still life, and landscape oil paintings. More recently with quarantine and sheltering in place, I have painted from my dreams, memories, and from nature; walking in the woods and listening to birdsong. I find myself paying closer attention to the relationship between people and nature. An interesting time to be an artist.
